Morocco - Shahara - Desert & Sea
Day 1: Marrakech
We will pick you up at Marrakech airport and take you to your comfortable Riad in the Medina, the old town of Marrakech. From here you can easily reach the heart of the city, Djama el Fna, on foot. We will be happy to give you some tips for exploring the city.
Day 2: Marrakech
Today, a city tour of the sights is on the program. You will explore the Medina of Marrakech on foot. (approx. 4 hours).
Day 3: Zagora - Zagora
After breakfast, we head towards the Atlas Mountains. Over the picturesque, winding route to the pass of Tizi'n tichka (2260 m) down the south side of the Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate, the gateway to southern Morocco and into the fertile Draa Valley with its extensive palm groves. Along the Draa, an oasis chain stretches over more than 100 km. Barren rocky landscapes and lush green vegetation contrast with each other. Kasbahs, the traditional clay buildings, cling to rocky slopes, palm groves, henna fields, and goat herds line the way. In Zagora, you will stay overnight in a beautiful hotel in the palm grove near the Draa River.
Day 4: Zagora - M`Hamid
After breakfast, we continue south. First to Tamegroute, known for its Koranic school and pottery, and then to M'Hamid, where the paved road ends and the tracks into the Sahara begin. After a hearty lunch in a private garden in M'Hamid, where we also meet our camels and guides, our luggage is loaded, and we continue on foot. The luggage is carried by the camels, and if desired, a riding camel will be available for you. After a half-day stage, we set up our camp and you spend your first night in the desert.
Day 5: M'Hamid – Sidi Naji
Around 8 a.m., the small caravan sets off towards Sidi Naji to take advantage of the morning coolness. The route passes some small oases and through rocky sections. At a shady spot, you will take a lunch break. There is a fresh, cold snack and a strengthening tea. Rested, you continue to the dunes of Sidi Naji, where your camel guide will set up the camp for you. Then there is the evening tea, dinner is prepared, and by the campfire, you can end the day and experience your second night under the vast starry sky of the Sahara. The daily distance is about 15 – 20 km at a leisurely pace.
Day 6: Sidi Naji – Erg Ezahar
Your caravan sets off after breakfast, and you continue the hike with the camels, your personal porters, towards Erg Ezahar. During the day, you cross a rocky plain (Hamada) to the large sand dunes. Lunch is in the shade of a tamarisk, and the bivouac in the evening is set up at the foot of the dunes.
Day 7: From Erg Ezahar to the Dunes of Bougarn
In the now familiar rhythm, the next stage also proceeds. Breakfast, load the camels, start walking. In the middle of the way, lunch is prepared, depending on the temperatures in the shade or in the sun, and in the late afternoon, you reach the dunes of Bougarn. There, the camp is set up, and after dinner, you can spend another night in the vastness and silence of the Sahara.
Day 8: Dunes of Bougarn – Dunes of Chegaga
Continue towards Chegaga. Before reaching these great and extensive dunes, you cross Oued Laatache. Around noon, you reach the sacred oasis, where you have lunch at the edge of a spring. In the afternoon, you finally arrive at your bivouac at the foot of the large dunes of Chegaga. Before nightfall, you can climb these mighty dunes to enjoy the sunset from there. A very special moment. Perhaps in the evening after dinner by the campfire, you would like to join in the music of the nomads. Slowly, it is time to say goodbye, so you can spend this special atmosphere of the Sahara in a comfortable bed, and there are good washing facilities.
Day 9: Chegaga – Foum Zguid
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to the camels and your camel guide and to the Sahara, of whose vastness and grandeur you now surely have an idea. By off-road vehicle, you go over the track (approx. 90 km) to Foum Zguid. There, you will stay overnight in a beautiful hotel in Moroccan style and have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself and use the swimming pool.
Day 10: Foum Zguid - Taliouine – Taroudant
After breakfast, we leave our hotel in Foum Zguid via Tazenakht and continue to Taliouine, the capital of saffron cultivation at the foot of Djebel Siroua. The journey continues to Taroudant, whose medina is surrounded by an impressive city wall. Here, a little stroll through the souk is worthwhile. You will stay overnight in a small, typical Moroccan Riad.
11. Tags: Taroudant – Agadir - Essaouira
Today, the journey continues to the port of Agadir on the Atlantic coast, where we have a "à la marocaine" lunch. Here, all imaginable seafood and fish are freshly prepared in the food stalls. The journey continues along the coastal road through the region of argan trees to Essaouira. We will take you to your Riad in the Medina.
Day 12: Essaouira
Take advantage of the beautiful landscape with extended beach walks or let yourself drift through the winding streets of the old town and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the small port town.
Day 13: Essaouira - Marrakech
In the late morning, we return to Marrakech. There, you can enjoy the hustle and bustle once again, buy small souvenirs or handicrafts, or seek a retreat on the terrace of our Riad to enjoy peace.I
Day 14: Marrakech - Return flight
We will take you to Marrakech Menara Airport according to your return flight, about 2 hours before departure time.
